PROJECT / The Art Hotel it is a conceptual project, not intended for one specific location, but for different cities around the world. The project draws inspiration from the Tower of Babel and it examines how new social technologies inform the urban experience. A spiraling strip of perforated aluminum covers the hotel’s exterior glass facade, shading its guest rooms while preserving outdoor views. The spiral starts from the reception desk and crosses the entrance space to create a canopy before ascending up the facade to the top floors, where it shields the garden on the roof. The aluminum band also functions as an interactive hypertext skin. Guests input their thoughts and feelings at the reception desk, and the messages are broadcast to the outside world in a continuously changing stream of languages and ideas, illuminated by LEDs at night. The Art Hotel is designed for diverse metropolitan areas, where people of different creeds, cultures, races, and religions interact every day.
