Emergence: Craft + Technology feature work that exemplifies the ever-increasing intertwining of advanced digital processes with traditional hand-made craft. This innovative exhibition features work that exemplifies the ever-increasing intertwining of advanced digital processes with traditional hand-made craft. Whether through the use of computer design programs, CNC and automated tools, or 3D printing, we are celebrating the use of new technologies in the production of state-of-the-art craft. Antonio Pio Saracino was invited to exhibit some of his recent design work digitally generated. He presented the Hexa Lounge.
The Hexa lounge, chair, and bench table collection is an angular and sculptural seat based on hexagonal geometry and offers unexpected comfort. The hexagon made with six petals opening from an empty core that is the base of the back of the chair. Each petal is made with leather or fabric cushions, both in the back and front of the chair.
The geometric petals are assembled on top of a hexagonal stainless-steel welded frame attached on geometric tubular legs. The frame is available in a brilliant chrome and brushed finish.
In 2014, the Wayne Art Center celebrated the 20th anniversary of Craft Forms. This critically acclaimed contemporary craft exhibition has evolved into an internationally recognized show featuring established and emerging artists from around the world. Each year, the Craft Forms and its companion exhibit attract over 5,000 visitors from across the country to appreciate craft in its finest form.
The Wayne Art Center is pleased to welcome Ron Labaco, Marcia Docter Curator at the Museum of Arts and Design, NY, NY as this year’s Craft Forms juror. Past world-renowned jurors have included Jane C. Milosch of the Smithsonian Institution, Michael Monroe of the Bellevue Arts Museum, Lloyd Herman of the Renwick Museum, and Paul J. Smith of the American Museum of Craft, just to name a few craft masters. Last year, co-jurors David McFadden of the Museum of Arts and Design and Bruce W. Pepich of the Racine Art Museum selected 99 works of art from over 800 entries from 500 artists to our 20th anniversary exhibition.
